Earth Day at Woodside Farms

As we begin to welcome more sunlight hours back into our lives, we have been busy shaking off the winter and getting ready to kick-off another wonderful growing season. One of our favorite ways to do this is by hosting a farm-favorite event, Earth Day! A little extra sun, rain, birds, and flowers all mean that springtime is here again. This beautiful rotation of natural gifts from the Earth reminds us to take a moment to give back to our local and global community. Earth Day, and spring in general, is a great time to show Mother Earth a little TLC. Whether you volunteer with a local cleanup organization like invasive plant removal or a trash pick up, or you plant a tree in your own backyard, it’s important to start local and support your community. That’s one reason why we’re so excited to be bringing some of our favorite local vendors to the farm. Keeping things local means you’re getting the freshest, highest-quality items from people who are dedicating personal time, money, and energy into limiting their impact on the Earth. We could all benefit from a little re-focusing on the local options and opportunities in our own communities. Have a loved one’s birthday, anniversary, or graduation coming up? Stock up on meaningful gifts that show you care while also enjoying fresh produce options from Woodside, a farm-fresh meal, and live music at our Earth Day event on Saturday, April 23rd from 10 am-2 pm.

The following vendors will also be here!

Rhoda’s Flora owner, Natalie Berck, is a fixture at local makers’ markets around Richmond. We’re so excited that she’ll be bringing plants along with handmade plant-themed gifts to Woodside Farms’ Earth Day celebration this year.

Amy Fowler will be at the farm with her DoTerra products as well as a cooking demo! We’re so glad she’s a Woodside Farms fixture.

Freckled Flower Farm is a 40+ acre farm located in Montpelier. They’re dedicated to organic and sustainable practices and continue to perform techniques that ensure and invest in healthier soil. They will have a variety of planters, grab-&-go bouquets, and a mini-stem bar for people to create their own beautiful flower arrangements.

RVAg is back with hundreds of local products. From sauces and drink mixers to soaps, popcorn, pasta, and personal care products - they’ll have a myriad of local goodies you're going to love! They’ll also have lots of new items, including delicious ciders! So make sure to come by and stock up on local goodies and treats! They’re a must-shop if you’re looking for local gifts for mom, dad, and the grads!

Molly, the hangry chef behind Hangry Pickles, will bring her deliciously local, homemade craft pickles made to order in Richmond. With over 40 unique flavors of pickles, pickled veggies, and pickled fruits, everyone is able to pick your perfect pickle.

Hedstrom’s Homegrowns Microgreens are “The Healthiest Greens Alive!” These powerhouse seedlings have 4 to 40 times the nutrients of their full-grown counterparts. They are non-GMO, pesticide-free, and sold as living plants that can be cut fresh prior to eating or harvested all at once and stored in the fridge. Stop by their booth for free samples on Earth Day - they’d love to meet you! And for more info on the health benefits of microgreens, check out one of our previous blog posts here.

Barb’s Blooms have been growing flowers for over 30 years. After retiring, Barb's Blooms' owner Barbara Payton transitioned into doing what she loves most, growing and selling floral arrangements, one smile at a time. Most Saturdays during the growing season you can find Barb's Blooms arrangements at the Dorey Park Farmers Market in eastern Henrico County. In addition to selling floral arrangements, Barb's Blooms also sells birdseed wreaths, fresh culinary herbs, and seasonal bedding plants (both annuals and perennials).

We’re so excited to welcome all of these vendors to our special Earth Day celebration on April 23rd. So make sure you mark your calendars, bring your friends, and don’t forget your market bags!
